He is the first Senate Democrat to step forward to oppose the deal.

“This has made evaluating the agreement a hard and deliberate endeavour”, he admitted, following days of speculation about his intentions. A resolution of disapproval would prevent Obama from lifting sanctions put in place by Congress – a critical part the agreement.
Congress is likely to pass a resolution of disapproval of the deal after it returns from recess in September.
He also said he anxious that the deal would allow the Iranian government to expand its aggression in the region.
Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Democrats and is seeking the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, but to the chagrin of many in the party, offered a clear “I do” when asked whether he supports the agreement.
“Senator Schumer reached a conclusion we strongly disagree with”, Earnest said.
The pact, struck on July 1 by the United States, Iran and five other world powers, would curb Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from crippling sanctions.
“That all said, that is why I would describe this as an amount in that was not particularly surprising here at the White House, even if it was disappointing”.
The Obama administration is confident it can get enough Democrats on Capitol Hill to support the Iran deal, despite prominent rejections of the deal from Sen.
Schumer would also vote to override the President’s veto on Iran deal, an aide told CNN on Friday morning, meaning he is prepared to vote “no” twice against the President.
When Dickerson asked him about President Obama’s statement that caused some controversy about whether or not Republican are trying to kill the agreement because they are “making common cause” with those in Iran who oppose the agreement. “Frankly, we thought Senator Schumer and other Democrats in Washington had learned their lesson after being misled into supporting a misguided war of choice in Iraq“.
And the ugly, he said, is that Iran is permitted within 15 years “to have an unlimited quantity of centrifuges of unlimited quality, as well as heavy water reactors and reprocessing facilities”.
Schumer is widely expected to become the next Democratic leader after Senator Harry Reid retires, and his split with fellow-Democrat Obama is remarkable for a senior leader. Engel is a top Democrat in the House and, like Schumer, is an influential Jewish figure.
The senator joins a handful of Jewish Democrat Congress members who are against the deal.
