Connecticut woman retrieving item on track killed by train

The unidentified woman was struck Friday morning at the Cos Cob station in Greenwich, a Metro-North Railroad spokesman said.

On March 29, a Waterbury woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at the Fairfield Metro-North station. A Metro-North spokesperson confirmed to News 8 that the train was an express train from Grand Central bound for New Haven. Metropolitan Transit Authority Police, Greenwich Fire and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the scene.

Metro-North trains on the New Haven Line experienced delays Friday morning after a person was hit and killed at the Cos Cob stop.

Shortly after the accident, commuters on the New Haven Line reported experiencing delays of up to 35 minutes. There are speed restrictions on trains in the area. Trains were running on schedule by mid-afternoon, according to Metro-North.

Video and photos tweeted on the scene show investigators on the tracks at 11:20 a.m., and the woman’s body being removed from the tracks at 11:30.
