Napoli: Higuain out, Benzema in?

Napoli rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid of €60million “plus two or three players” for Gonzalo Higuain, according to club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Higuain, 28, has been the subject of interest from Juventus and Arsenal and has a €94m release clause in his contract.

“We won’t pay the clause, it is absolutely true”, Marotta said.

Juventus have also reportedly been in discussions this week, but De Laurentiis played down suggestions he would move to Napoli’s Serie A title rivals.

“Higuain will not go to Juve”, he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

Arsenal’s transfer record stands at £42.5m for the fee paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013 but the Gunners would have to smash that to bring Higuain to the Emirates.

“All this chit-chat is meaningless”.

“The only offer for Pipita came from Atleti”, De Laurentiis said of the Argentina global in quotes reported by AS.

“There aren’t many clubs capable of paying that amount”.

“At the moment, considering that he has not spoken and expressed his opinion, this situation that has been created is just a load of talk”.

Higuain was a dominant figure in Serie A last season as he netted 36 goals to fire Napoli to second spot behind Juventus and in the process secure Champions League football for the Azzurri in the forthcoming campaign.
