The boisterous roll call featured officials bragging about their states, per tradition, and enthusiastically declaring Trump the victor of their delegates. “That honor will go to President Donald Trump next year”, he said.

“Donald Trump is the official Republican nominee”, the fundraising page said.

The evening’s program ended on an unusual note, with an actress-turned-avocado farmer delivering the closing speech – a spot normally reserved for prominent speakers.

After the roll call, Clinton tweeted a fundraising appeal: “Donald Trump just became the Republican nominee”.

The convention also has been marred by protests from anti-Trump delegates and a controversy over a speech by Trump’s wife, Melania, that included a section that was strikingly similar to a portion of the speech given by Michelle Obama at the Democratic convention in 2008 when her husband, Barack Obama, was seeking his first term as president.

“The Clinton years are way over; 2016 is the year America moves on”, Ryan said.

Many Republican leaders stayed away from the convention, still wary of being associated with the divisive candidate and unsure how his nomination impacts their own political futures. Mrs. Trump’s speech was well received in the convention hall.

On Wednesday, Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence delivers a prime-time address along with Texas Sen.

Trump officially secured the 1,237 delegates needed for that honor after his home state of NY cast 89 votes in his direction. Four of his children joined the state’s delegation on the convention floor for the historic moment and appeared overwhelmed with emotion.

Trump’s oldest child, and Tiffany Trump, Trump’s youngest daughter will tell the audience at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland what it was like growing up with the NY billionaire as a dad.
