Star Trek TV series coming to Netflix global

It’s a good time for Star Trek fans with the release of Star Trek Beyond, hitting theaters on July 22 and the new CBS show that marks the first time in more than a decade (2005) that new Star Trek episodes will air on television.

Netflix will be the exclusive home of Star Trek in 188 countries (excluding the USA and Canada) with each episode of the show available within 24 hours of its United States premiere.

Responding to Takei’s reservations, Cho told RTÉ Entertainment: “Roddenberry is not here to speak for himself but I do think it’s an extension personally of what he set out to portray in Star Trek, which was infinite diversity and infinite combinations”. All remaining episodes will initially be televised on Bell Media’s cable networks, Space (in English) and Z (in French), and then later exclusively on CraveTV, Bell Media’s streaming video-on-demand service.

“We are extremely pleased to significantly expand our partnership with Bell”, said Armando Nuñez, President and CEO, CBS Studios International.

It can not be overstated just how big of a fanbase “Star Trek” has. “Bell Media’s premium linear and digital platforms will be a great home for our new series, as STAR TREK celebrates its 50th anniversary”.

Since Chekov supposedly won’t be recast, some have assumed this might mean the character will be killed off in Star Trek Beyond.

Star Trek is one of three sci-fi franchises now banking on Hemsworth’s star power. That was the last time the original Enterprise crew were together, though all of the main characters, with the exception of Uhura, guest starred on one of the later TV shows and/or briefly appeared in the 1994 movie Star Trek: Generations. Each episode will be made available globally within 24 hours of its premiere in the U.S.

No director was announced for the next “Star Trek” sequel.

Instead, the series will be streamed on CBS’ paid streaming service, CBS All Access, in the USA, and by Bell Media in Canada. Fuller launched his career writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers.
