Major Players Linked in Latest Blues Rumours — Chelsea Transfer News

While Louis van Gaal appears content with his injury-prone United back line, Marca report that Diego Godin has been the subject of a €40m bid from Manchester City.

The Citizens are willing to pay €40m for the defender as Godin’s agent, Paco Casal, has suggested his client’s name to the Manchester City hierarchy for a possible move.

The 29-year-old’s current contract ends in 2018 and despite leaving a large amount of money on the table by rejecting Manchester City’s offer, the defender wished to assure the club and fans of his commitment to the organisation by extending his deal for an addition year.

He played a vital role in Atleti’s success in 2013/14, scoring the goal that clinched the La Liga title in a 1-1 draw at Barcelona and also the opening goal in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Koke has been one of the key figures in Diego Simeone’s revolution at the Vicente Calderon in recent years, but that has not stopped him from being consistently linked with an exit from the club.

City are light in defence as they head into the new campaign with just captain Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and last summer’s biggest signing Eliaquim Mangala the only senior centre-backs now at the Etihad.
