After announcing he was supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, College Football Hall of Famer Lou Holtz offered some controversial remarks about immigration at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday. The luncheon was in honor of Phyllis Schlafly, the conservative stalwart who has backed Trump.

Woodruff also noted Holtz said he doesn’t want to speak their language.

Rece Davis, Holtz’s former colleague at ESPN, quickly jumped to Holtz’s defense, insisting that the old coach wasn’t bringing his own liquor to the convention. Jesse Helms (R-NC), a noted racist. Instead, he applauded the “first class” quality of Trump’s properties. “The main reason I’m endorsing him: I played on his golf course, I stayed in his hotel. He wants this country to be first class as well”.

It is suspected that Holtz may have been drunk during his speech.

“A lot of people make a living by the way they vote”, he said. “Forty-seven percent of people make a living by the way they vote”.

Holtz also said he has to park his van in the back of his church’s parking lot and back it into a spot there because it sports a bumper sticker that embarrasses his wife. “Everybody else thinks you’re an ass****”.
