Virginia’s Sales Tax Holiday this weekend
Lancaster-Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce President Travis Markwood said it’s hard to say what effect the tax holiday will spur since it is new.

“When you combine the savings of the sales-tax holiday with the usual back-to-school sales, it really puts people in the mood to shop, and that’s exactly what the economy needs right now”, Starns said.
Many clothing items are tax-free during the weekend, allowing parents to find the right back to school outfit for their children.
“The reality is that they want to come to school looking well, too”. The school supplies included in the holiday tax exemption include but are not limited to backpacks, binders, calculators, composition notebooks, crayons, erasers, folders, glue, index cards, lunch boxes, markers, paper, pencils, pens, rulers, and scissors.
Mothers of newborns will be glad to hear that diapers and diaper bags will be tax free as well as baby clothes and bibs.
School supplies that each cost $20 or less, as well as clothing items priced at $100 or less will be exempt from the 5.3 percent state and local sales tax.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida’s back-to-school sales tax holiday is kicking off and this time it’s going to last longer.
State sales taxes and some local sales taxes will be waived on certain items on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Missouri.
Shoppers also do not have to pay the state’s 6 percent sales tax on the first $750 of any computer purchase.

Retail stores throughout the East Texas area are preparing for the state’s annual Sales Tax Holiday, held this weekend, Friday through Sunday, August 7-9. The potential savings are worth noting since, according to the National Retail Federation, the average family spent nearly $700 on school-related items past year.
