Christie, presumingly for the objective of the present moment, did not mention Clinton’s role in building an worldwide coalition that imposed crippling sanctions on Iran.
Instead, he promised to “present the case” against former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, claiming that she was “guilty” of possessing “awful judgment” while defining U.S. foreign policy as secretary of state.
“In looking back at our investigations into the mishandling or removal of classified information, we can not find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts”. He said voters should hold her accountable for failures in Libya, Syria and elsewhere.
On Russia, he said, Clinton gave them that “stupid, symbolic reset button” that should have said “delete – she’s very good at that, by the way”.
“We can not reward incompetence and deceit”, Christie said.
Christie went on to criticize the nuclear deal with Iran, Clinton’s dealings with Russian Federation, and called her a “coddler of the brutal Castro brothers” in criticizing the Obama administration’s reopening of diplomatic relations with Cuba. “She lied about it over and over and over again”.
Saying that because “the Justice Department refused to prosecute her”, that he would prosecute her Tuesday night in Cleveland with the audience being the jury.
“Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case”, Comey said in a July 5 news conference. The FBI Director said that was untrue.
“Hillary Clinton is asking the people of this country and the people of the United States to make her the first President in history to take the oath of office after already having violated it”, he said.
Christie was referring to pranks committed during the presidential transition from Bill Clinton to George W. Bush in 2001.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan called for unity among Republicans after a bruising primary season and said it is time for America to move on from the failed promises of President Barack Obama and the proposed Clinton agenda.
While he didn’t get the nod as Trump’s vice presidential candidate – instead, Trump picked Indiana Gov. Mike Pence – Christie said Tuesday that “the truth is that I never expected to be chosen”.
