Attendees at the event, which was put together by conservative group American Unity Fund and featured remarks from TV host Montel Williams, cheered for Jenner.
More broadly, Jenner said she wanted to make an impact on her party’s thinking, so that trans youth can grow up in a better world.
Caitlyn Jenner said Wednesday it was easier to come out as transgender than it was as a Republican. Jenner said it was easier to come out as t.
Jenner, who came out as transgender past year, admitted that while the journey to transition from Bruce to Caitlyn was tough, talking politics was no cake walk either. Last week, the RNC platform committee added language to the party’s statement of beliefs that criticized the Obama administration’s rules that allow transgender public school students to use the bathroom of their choice. In other words, she said, laws like North Carolina’s are based on a “nonissue”. “If you remember, just because of the color of my skin, there were bathrooms I couldn’t go in, water fountains I couldn’t drink from”. She also noted that there have been no documented cases involving a transgender person using the cover of their gender identity to molest someone in a bathroom.
“I would tell Donald that these are people out there who have been marginalized for so many years”, she said. “And thank God, because there are some great conversations going on in the lady’s room, OK?” Larry Craig, former Mississippi Rep. Jon Hinson and former Florida state Rep.
