AAP leader Aashutosh said the media was speculating on Sidhu’s role in the party, adding that a decision on the their chief ministerial candidate in Punjab is yet to taken. “I am personally impressed by AAP’s ideology and (Delhi chief minister) Arvind Kejriwal’s working style”, she said.

“It’s advantage AAP, if Mr. Sidhu joins the party. For the Congress, the electoral fight would get more challenging while for the BJP it is a set back”. Sidhu and co-accused Rupinder Singh were acquitted by the trial court but in 2006, the Punjab and Haryana High Court reversed that verdict and sentenced both to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.

Jaitley, pitted against Congress stalwart and former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, lost badly by a margin of over one lakh votes. Sources said that the fromer cricketer turn politician has been miffed with the party ever since he made way way for Arun Jaitley in Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency in the last General Elections.

Sidhu’s wife Navjyot Kaur meanwhile continued to maintain that his journey with the BJP is over and he would not return to its fold although she didn’t reveal his next destination. “I definitely think the party should talk to him”. “At the behest of the honourable PM, I had accepted the Rajya Sabha nomination for the welfare of Punjab”. It’s likely that his wife too would join AAP soon after Sidhu has formally joined.

A reporter asked her, if Navjot singh Sidhu will join the Aam Aadmi Party after the resignation from the member of Rajya Sabha nomitted by the BJP.

The BJP is part of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-led ruling coalition in Punjab. Some leaders see Sidhu as a key player in the campaign if he switches parties.

Sidhu’s wife, who is a BJP MLA from Amritsar (Rural), is expected to contest on an AAP ticket.

He is being seen as someone who will take AAP’s campaign forward, if he chooses to switch.

As Punjab’s political scene is heating up for the assembly polls, everyone knows that the state is headed for a triangular showdown among the Akali Dal, Congress and the AAP.
