Dallas police headquarters under lockdown after anonymous threat
The department said there was no formal lockdown.

A Dallas police spokeswoman said earlier Saturday that the department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has tightened security.
Micah Johnson, an Army veteran, received instruction at the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts in the Dallas suburb of Richardson about two years ago, said the school’s founder and chief instructor, Justin J. Everman. Police said they used a shotgun to get through a locked door during the search.
Obama said the ban would encourage trust-building between police and the communities they serve.
The chief responded by creating a public database to track shootings by police, requiring officers to undergo lethal-force training every two months instead of every two years, and firing 70 officers involved in questionable incidents, including some who faced charges over excessive use of force.
Renee Sifflet, a mother of three teenagers who attended the rally and march, said she lost track of one of her children during the ensuing chaos. Two officers were wounded, one critically. Two civilians were also hurt, the Dallas mayor’s office said. Similar protests – mostly peaceful – were held Friday in dozens of cities across the United States, and more are planned for Saturday.
The Dallas police chief, who is black, urged people upset about the conduct of police to consider joining his police force.
For the President, that was grounds for optimism that the nation would move forward in a constructive way. He noted the scenes around the country were not akin to the polarized 1960s.
“He felt that people don’t understand the danger of dealing with a protest”, said Rawlings, who spoke to the surviving officer.
“As tough, as hard, as depressing as the loss of life was this week, we have a foundation to build on”.
Who was Micah Xavier Johnson?
Johnson had no criminal record or known terror ties, a law enforcement official said.
Law enforcement sources tell NPR that Johnson drove his mother’s vehicle to the protest.
The other attacks on police included a Georgia man who authorities said called 911 to report a break-in, then ambushed the officer who came to investigate. The Touch of Kindness owner told CNN he had infrequent interaction with Johnson, but always as professionals.
The killing of the five officers was the deadliest single incident for USA law enforcement since September 11, 2001.
The gunshots in Dallas came amid protests nationwide over the recent police shootings.
Seven officers were wounded. Officer Jesus Retana went home Friday and Officer Elmar Cannon was discharged Saturday. Police initially suspected more than one shooter. The officer was hospitalized in critical condition. Carter said the first shot sounded like a firecracker. The man “wanted the police to shoot him” and “he wanted to die”, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, citing interviews with suspect. On his flight to Spain, he called Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to offer his condolences on behalf of the American people, the White House said. The Army sent him stateside, recommending an “other than honorable discharge” – which is “highly unusual” because counseling is usually ordered before more drastic steps are taken, said Bradford Glendening, the military lawyer who represented him.
Those were the latest in a series of high-profile killings of black men by police in cities including New York, Ferguson, Missouri, Chicago and Baltimore that have triggered protests. Media was asked to stop airing live video.
