Consideration of pairing officers is happening on the same day another officer was killed in the line of duty. The incident occurred at Kansas’ Haskell Avenue neighborhood.

Kansas City police chief Terry Zeigler said Captain Robert Melton was shot several times through his window while the suspect attempted to evade capture.
Robert Melton, 46, was one of the responding officers to a call Tuesday afternoon about a drive-by shooting.
“This fear sometimes feels bigger than all of us, and yet I believe Kansas City Kansas will faithfully rise above this fear”.
“This is a very tense and volatile time in our community and our nation”.
“We’re aware that this is not happening in a microcosm”, Holland said.
Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, sent prayers for Melton’s family and condolences to Kansas City police department likewise.
Neighbors said about 15 to 20 gunshots originating inside a vehicle parked in the neighborhood.

The suspect vehicle drove off as police arrived, but it crashed into a fence and the occupants fled at 1.36pm.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Capt Melton had also served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan from September 2010 to March 2012. As the second officer pursued the other suspects and made contact with one of them at 1:57 p.m., multiple shots were fired, and the officer was hit.
Melton was a 17-year veteran of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. He says there are “many heavy hearts” after Melton’s death, which he calls a “senseless tragedy”.
Officers are also looking for at least a third suspect..
Police said it did not appear to be an ambush.
