Unarmed South Florida man with hands up shot by police

“He’s autistic, non-verbal so the police couldn’t get anything out of him because he can’t speak”. Some of the details are still a bit unclear, but what is clear is that Kinsey got on the ground with his hands raised when police pulled weapons and it apparently didn’t make any difference-he was shot once in the leg by the North Miami officers.

Kinsey says he was trying to intervene on behalf of an autistic patient who had run off from the group home. “He’s on his back with his hands in the air trying to convince the other guy to lie down”.

On Wednesday, WSVN aired a cell phone video reportedly taken moments before caregiver Charles Kinsey was shot by North Miami police.

Circle of Brotherhood, a group of men who work together to perform acts of community service and crime prevention, are demanding answers after Kinsey, who is one their members, was shot. “I’m like this right here, and when he shot me, it was so surprising”, Kinsey said. “And I’m saying, ‘Sir, why did you shoot me?’ and his words to me were, ‘I don’t know'”.

We reached out to the North Miami Police Department and will update when available. Assistant Police Chief Neal Cuevas said the investigation has been turned over to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say a Florida police officer shot and wounded an autistic man’s caretaker following reports of a man threatening to shoot himself. They responded to Northeast 127th Street and about 14th Avenue and began barking orders.

Kinsey only wants to help people and is perplexed as to why officers fired. The offier’s name hasn’t been released. “At some point during the on-scene negotiation, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon, striking the employee”.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. “A toy truck. I am a behavior therapist at a group home”.

By Wednesday, Napoleon said he was already negotiating a possible settlement with the city of North Miami. Kinsey said he was suffering flashbacks to the shooting “every time I close my eyes” and had only wanted to help his patient. I was thinking as long as I have my hands up … they’re not going to shoot me. His attorney said officers handcuffed him and left him there until paramedics arrived.
