Comic-Con 2016: 26 Things We Hope To See

The popularity of gaming app Pokemon Go has seen its panel on Sunday move to the convention’s largest room, Hall H, to accommodate fans. (Those days you could still walk up on the day of the show and land a ticket; in the modern era, Comic-Con sells out online in moments.) It didn’t take long for movie studios to realize the convention was an ideal location for them to promote films that catered to that same audience, and a quick symbiosis formed. It could happen. Depending on how Comic-Con goes this week, we could see a film emerge as the shining example of why the convention is still vital, relevant, and worth being part of.

While comics still hold an important place at the convention, cinema is grabbing all the media attention, as the industry’s big-hitters try out different means of communication to get the internet buzzing with good publicity.

This year’s Comic-Con San Diego includes a power lineup of TV show favorites such as “Game of Thrones”, “Scream Queens”, “The Walking Dead”, “The Vampire Diaries”, “The Flash”, and “Marvel’s Agents of Shield”. Check out the full SDCC movie panel schedule here.

Last night, Paramount staged a glitzy open-air USA premiere of “Star Trek Beyond”, attended by the cast and crew and completed with a live performance of Michael Giacchino’s score by the San Diego Symphony.

It’s been almost 30 years since James Cameron’s Alien was first introduced to the world and fans are hoping director Ridley Scott has enough footage done to give them a glimpse into the seventh installment of the franchise.

Meanwhile, other panels will highlight San Diego’s influence on pop culture, including one on local Chicano artists, and one on the “Law & Comics”, hosted by the San Diego County Law Library. Due to turning of the Star War celebrations into a great venue for news, trailers and more, it looks Disney cracked the code that how to get the most bang for their proverbial buck.

Opposite Hall H you’ll be able to experience Son of Zorn and Rocky Horror Picture show at Fox Television’s event, and the American Horror Story VR experience at the FXhibition.

However, films, comic books and shows are not the only main draw to Comic Con as there are a lot of exclusive collectives.

NECA, meanwhile, will be selling an exclusive of the first-ever Newt figure from “Aliens”, which will come in 6-inch scale.

What they, perhaps, weren’t expecting was a children’s cartoon to rock up with what may be the most highly sought after item of the show.
