The aedes aegypti mosquito, common in South Florida and also responsible for chikungunya and dengue fever, is the most common Zika transmitter. “I’m not surprised. We do have the mosquitoes here in Florida so it was really a matter of time until we saw a case that was transmitted from one of these patients via the mosquito to another resident in Florida”.

The state health department said it would make Zika prevention kits and repellent available at its Miami-Dade office. Partners of pregnant women are advised to use a condom to guard against sexual transmission during pregnancy.
The CDC has sent an emergency response team to Utah to assist state and local public health disease control specialists in the investigation.
