USA plane-maker Boeing, which is celebrating its centennial on Friday, announced orders and commitments for 182 commercial aircraft, valued at 26.8 billion United States dollars (£20.1 billion) at list prices.

While a slowing of China’s economy has made headlines, travel has continued to expand at double-digit rates as the country undergoes a fundamental shift to consumption and services and away from industrial production, Randy Tinseth, a Boeing vice president for marketing, said in an interview at the air show.
Following on from an accord to sell 72 A320neos to Go Airlines India Pvt., the blockbuster deal takes Airbus’s Farnborough tally to 223 aircraft valued at $28.3 billion.
Both Boeing and main rivals Airbus are jostling for business at the Farnborough Airshow in England this week in an attempt to win contracts, and both have played down the impacts of Brexit on the avaiation industry.
ALC has 180 jets on order with Boeing, which represents the company’s largest backlog for any leasing customer.
China’s Kunming Airlines has indicated an interest in purchasing 10 737 MAX 7 airplanes with a value of US$902 million.
The bulk of deals at Farnborough and the Paris show with which it alternates come on the first two business days, though more announcements are possible Wednesday, with the acquisition of 20 Max jets by Spain’s Air Europa Lineas Aereas among anticipated purchases that have so far failed to materialize.
As this year’s show in Farnborough wraps up, Airbus can count 279 orders and commitments worth $35 billion at list prices, including firm orders for 197 aircraft valued at $26.3 billion.
“With this aircraft we believe we will hit 100 million passengers in the not-too-distant future”, Fernandes said, adding negotiations started over a meal in an Iranian restaurant in London past year, for which he said he paid the bill.
While the deal’s details have not been disclosed yet, it is forecasted to be worth around $30 billion, with jets such as the latest 737 Max and next-generation 737 variant.

European giant Airbus revealed that Virgin Atlantic had ordered 12 wide-bodied A350-1000 jets worth a total of $4.4 billion (3.9 billion euros). Several other orders (29 new planes announced Wednesday and 13 announced on Tuesday) simply put airline names to previously unidentified customers in Boeing’s order book.
