Wyoming delegates prepare for Republican National Convention

In April, Texas Sen. Both men are bound to vote for Ted Cruz and will stick with their original vote. “Mr. Trump has re-energized the Republican Party and attracted a lot of Democrats and independents”.

Those selections were made through the state party’s multi-tiered process this past spring.

That movement was dealt a major defeat on Thursday when it was rejected by the rules committee at the convention.

This week 50,000 people including 2,472 delegates, 15,000 journalists, thousands of protesters, and one billionaire candidate will descend on the birthplace of rock and roll, Cleveland, Ohio, for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Cleveland’s mayor and police chief have repeatedly said the city is prepared for all kinds of situations, but as other cities in the USA and overseas have tragically experienced in recent days and weeks, it’s impossible to foresee everything.

Wyoming Senator John Barrasso heads the platform committee for this year’s RNC.

“I would not count him out, obviously it would be a challenge to win, but I think he will do very well in MA”, she said.

She said she is trying to gather enough delegate signatures for a minority report, which would be presented for a vote at the full convention.

“Yeah, we’re absolutely rock solid”, said Terry Lathan, chairman of the Alabama Republican Party. “So why can not we as a party come together with the RNC and everyone else and get together and show the whole world and universe that we are a party not divided but we are a party of one?”

The convention starts Monday and runs through Thursday.

Trump also received 10 at-large delegates by winning the statewide vote.

As noted last week, my colleague Dillon Carr and myself will be in the 216 all week covering the Republican National Convention.

“Typically, conventions rally their troops, give them a bump up in the polls, then after Labor Day, real campaigns begin”, said Tom Ingram, a longtime Tennessee Republican operative who worked for Jeb Bush and John Kasich during their presidential campaigns and has attended several conventions but will not be heading to Cleveland this year. “It’s a privilege to go out there and represent Wyoming”.

Trump once said he would break from tradition and speak every night at the convention.

Jared Olsen, a national delegate who is the chairman of the Laramie County Republican Party and a candidate for House District 11, shared that sentiment.

“I think it’s somewhat ridiculous”.

In essence, those who didn’t want to see next week’s four-day convention become a contested event played rope-a-dope, allowing the opposition, which included many supporters of U.S. Sen.

Still, Diehl said he’s beginning to see some traditional political actors behind the scenes coming to grips with Trump as the nominee.

“The future of our country will be impacted greatly by who is chosen as our Republican presidential nominee – and our vice presidential nominee, as well”, Anderson said, speaking earlier in the week before Trump announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.

“But right now I believe that that’s through our foundation and our fantastic partners and fighting for kids who can’t fight for themselves”, Mr. Tebow said, referring to the Tim Tebow Foundation, a children’s charity. “I think that’s part of his appeal to people, the fact that he is less politically correct”.
