“Game of Thrones” is up for the award for top drama series, which it won a year ago for the first time.
The HBO’s fantasy epic that completed its sixth season, received 24 nominations past year and won its first Emmy for ‘best drama’. Game Of Thrones took home 12 prizes last year – more than any other show has collected in a single year.
“Black-ish” star Anderson, who got his second nod, will be competing with last year’s victor, Jeffrey Tambor of “Transparent”, along with Ansari, Will Forte for “The Last Man on Earth”, William H. Macy for “Shameless” and Thomas Middleditch for “Silicon Valley”.
“Downton Abbey“, which picked up eight nominations previous year but won only for hairstyling, marks its final season with 10 nods, including a fourth in the prestigious outstanding drama category. Kyle Chandler of “Bloodline”, Rami Malek of “Mr. Robot”, Bob Odenkirk of “Better Call Saul”, Matthew Rhys of “The Americans”, Liev Schreiber of “Ray Donovan”, and Kevin Spacey of “House of Cards” are nominated for best actor in a drama series.
The Night Manager is up for best limited television series against Fargo, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Roots and American Crime. Crackle, a much smaller streaming platform than the others, received three nominations, with Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” becoming the first-ever digital series nominated as best variety talk series. Margo Martindale was nominated for the second consecutive year for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (she won in 2015), and showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields were nominated for writing for a drama series.
It will again face competition from Modern Family, as well as Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Amazon’s Transparent, HBO’s Silicon Valley, ABC’s Black-ish and Netflix’s Master of None.
