Clearly, given Shrek’s proven success, reviving the films might be just what DreamsWorks needs to do to impress its new overseers.

Despite the desired date to release “Shrek 5” by 2019, it remains uncertain on whether the movie would finally push through or it would be cancelled halfway.
Yes, following rumours last month that the ever-popular, fairytale-inspired franchise would be getting a big screen reboot, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Shrek 5 is indeed in the works.
What would you like to see from the fifth Shrek film?
THR reports that NBCUniversal plans to greenlight two DreamWorks Animation films per year with Shrek 5 and Shadows on the line-up for 2019.
DreamWorks animators have no doubt been unsure of their job security following the high-profile acquisition, but if Shrek 5 is really looking to roll out in just a few years, then the studio is going to need as much help as they can get.
The Shrek sequel already sounds promising, given that the company’s forthcoming animated projects will be overseen by Chris Meledandri, who already turned Despicable Me and Minions into box office gold. NBCUniversal acquired Dreamworks in April.

Along with the original films, the Shrek brand has spawned a number of spin-offs, which include “Shrek the Halls”, 2007, “Scared Shrekless”, 2010 and “Puss in Boots” – a prequel to the Shrek series, exploring Puss’ origin story and his life before meeting Shrek and Donkey.
