“We hope Tennessee shoppers will take advantage of the tax relief offered by this year’s sales tax holiday“, Revenue Commissioner Richard Roberts said.
“We did that last year and didn’t want to have to do it again this year”, Cheryl Smith said.
Virginia’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday has been reimagined and expanded to apply to more items than ever.
As for individual stores, many will be offering special sales to coincide with the holiday. Some say you can even take the savings to a whole different level.
Valerie Davis, kindergarten teacher in Orange County, says she will be taking advantage of the deals during the Tax Free Holiday.
Everyone qualifies for the discount, not just school kids, and anyone can save on school supplies, said Gary Gudmundson, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Taxation. Sports equipment, cellphones and computer-related items such as printers also get taxed.
You won’t have to pay sales tax on most school supplies under $15, plus clothes and shoes under $100 and other items.
Back-to-school supplies that will be tax exempt include materials that cost $20 or less.
In anticipation of the crowds, Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque has added hours to its weekend schedule, staying open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 p.m. Sunday. You can also save on computers and certain accessories up to the first $750 spent.
Today is the start of Oklahoma’s tax free weekend.

Families that include children going to kindergarten through 12th grade or students in college are the ones who will be benefitted from this sales-tax holiday for back-to-school shopping.
