Many feared for their lives, and in some cases, “people were kind of holding hands and others were crying”, passenger Rob Wessman told ABC.

Pilots decided to make the emergency landing because of a crack in the windshield, though in reality the windshield had been hit by a large amount of hail.
According to audio recordings of pilots’ conversations with air traffic controllers, their visibility was compromised during the landing.
While in Denver, one person was transported to a local hospital at their own request, according to Coale.
Delta passenger Beau Sorenson tweeted out the picture of the damage to the plane which was extensive.

The plane had to use its automatic guiding system as the pilots had limited visibility, and they were able to successfully land the plane with help from the control tower. “Then I realized we were lucky to be alive”.
