RNC 2016: Ted Cruz booed after refusing to back Donald Trump

The question was whether Cruz would make his speech about HIS future or the future of the country.

“History teaches us that weakness arouses evil”, he said, adding: “We can not have four more years of apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends”. But she said the presidential contender rejected her offer.

A witness said one person shouted: “Goldman Sachs” at Heidi Cruz in reference to her employment at the investment bank.

“I congratulate Donald Trump on winning the nomination last night”, said the Texas senator, the only time Trump’s name was mentioned in his speech.

Cruz used his convention speech as the foundation for a fundraising email for his Senate campaign: “Will you stand with me by making an immediate donation $5, $10, $25, or whatever you can afford today?”.

He urged American voters to go to the polling stations and not to stay home in November.

It was somewhat dismaying, he said, that apparently some of Donald’s biggest partisan supporters, when they heard him say people should vote for someone they trust and they know will defend the Constitution, they immediately began booing. The senator who is believed to be considering another presidential bid in 2020 drew heavy boos from Trump delegates and undermined the efforts of convention planners to project Republican unity in the wake of Trump’s primary victory. Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told ABC News that he escorted Heidi Cruz out of the convention hall because “it was volatile and the Trump folks were physically approaching and confrontationally yelling”, he said via text.

During the campaign, Trump called Cruz “Lyin’ Ted” and suggested his father had links to Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated of President John F. Kennedy.

The New York delegation shouted at the stage: “Endorse Trump!”

The cheers during the start of the speech turned to boos as the crowd realised Mr Crus wasn’t going to endorse Mr Trump.

Cruz announced Thursday morning that he’s standing by his speech at the Republican National Convention. “He expected people to not be thrilled about this”, the adviser said.
