The Union scored late in their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match against the New England Revolution to tie the score, but lost, 4-2, in a shootout Wednesday night.

Philadelphia would be out of the gates quickly at the start of the second half, earning a free kick just a minute into play as Alberg found the head of Barnetta, but Brad Knighton caught the header easily.
Ilsinho worked free through two New England defenders in the 61st minute, but Watson did enough to hit it out of bounds and break up the scoring threat.
The Revolution stayed on the offensive for most of the first half.
Nine minutes later, Alberg had a nifty bicycle kick near the penalty spot, but he had pulled it wide of Knighton’s right post.
Kamara took it immediately, kicking it short to Watson before the Philadelphia Union could ready for its impact. Chris Tierney made it 2-0 for New England followed by Ilsinho who made it 2-1. Fagundez earned a 28th-minute free kick.
Tranquillo Barnetta was able to head Alberg’s corner kick in the 47th minute, but Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton was in good position to make the save.
Alberg had a good opportunity in the 64th minute when Scott Caldwell stepped in and came up with a big block. Kei Kamara was risky throughout the second half, calling Blake into action once from 18 yards out and again from just inside the penalty area with a curled shot that the Philadelphia keeper parried away.
Knighton saved efforts by Sebastien Le Toux and C.J. Sapong to pave the way for Je-Vaughn Watson to add to his opening goal just before halftime.
Curtin used his third and final substitute in the 76th minute with Leo Fernandes coming on for Barnetta.
In the 35th minute, Union defender Ken Tribbett failed to connect with an open net off a Ray Gaddis cross from the right.
It looked to be the only one until Fabian Herbers equalized for Philadelphia, seconds before the clock struck the 90-minute mark.
The Union had the better of play in extra time but couldn’t convert.
The ball bounced around in the box in the 95th minute and landed directly at Fernandes’ feet in the box. It didn’t seem as if Knighton ever saw the shot from the Brazilian global. Blake saved his best moment for extra time, when he denied Andrew Farrell and Rowe in quick succession in the 105th. In the first minute of injury time, a Rowe drive was parried by Blake.

Rowe curled a shot over the crossbar in the 119th minute after Lee Nguyen sent a crisp pass in front. “I think Andre Blake kept them in it, and Brad kept us in it a couple times”. Ilsinho skimmed the crossbar with a drive in the 103rd, and Herbers was turned away by Knighton in the 110th.
