Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said in the capital, Brasilia, that 10 suspects had been arrested and two more were being sought.

Judicial authorities in the state of Parana claimed that intercepted data and telephone calls revealed that a terrorist cell was planning to use “weapons and guerrilla tactics” to achieve its aims. “If the French police can not stop attacks on its territory, training given to the Brazilian police will not do anything”, the group said on the encrypted messaging app Telegram.

Around 100,000 tickets across all Olympic events will go on sale on Thursday in what could be the last chance for fans to see their favourite sports at the Rio 2016 Games, according to organizers. He quoted a recent message that said: “Let’s train marital arts” and another that said, “Let’s learn how to shoot”.

The group was monitored when it discussed the alleged plans in Internet communications, the minister said.

The group is considered to be an ISIS cell in Brazil. However, like many other cities, Rio faces the threat of an individual, or “lone wolf”, terrorist and those are the people jihadi social media are hoping to reach. It added that “12 arrest warrants for temporary custody of 30 days were issued and may be extended for 30 more”.

Brazil’s intelligence agency said on Tuesday it was investigating all threats to the Rio Olympics, which start on August 5, after a presumed Brazilian Islamist group pledged allegiance to Daesh.

Interim President Michel Temer called an emergency cabinet meeting following the arrests, the first under Brazil’s tough new anti-terrorism law approved this year.

Authorities say the group, based in multiple states across Brazil, had “moved beyond discussion to active planning”, NPR’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro says.

Brazil has said it will bolster security for next month’s Games following last Thursday’s truck attack in Nice that left 84 dead.
