Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said the agency has sent a team to the crash site to determine the type of aircraft involved in the crash and gather information that will be passed on to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Joliet Municipal Airport and Clow Airport in Bolingbrook are both close to the crash site.

A small plane crashed into a house on the far west side of Joliet Thursday morning at 11:20 a.m. “59 and Theodore, and Theodore and River Rd while the crash is investigated”.

Carey said early reports indicated that the house hit the ground near the LA Fitness center at Theodore Street and Bronk Road.

The Joliet Police Department is asking motorists to avoid the area of the crash.

The house at 1812 Hampton Court in Joliet was set on fire. It was unclear whether there were any deaths.

Across the street, the siding of one side of a home was peeled from the structure and smoke was rising from inside.

Witnesses told PIX11 sister station WGN they saw something falling from the plane and then an explosion before the crash occurred.

Joliet Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Carey said no residents inside the home were injured at the time of the crash.
