Cruz: Won’t ‘sit down, shut up,’ endorse Trump
“I’m not going to get into criticizing or attacking Donald Trump, but I’ll give you this response”.

Cuccinelli said: “During the course of the speech, more and more people were coming down closer and closer to Heidi and (Ted Cruz’s father) Rafael”. Ted Cruz faced a livid – and yet admiring – Texas delegation on the final day of the Republican National Convention, only 12 hours after Donald Trump loyalists in the convention booed the junior senator off the stage.
“Personally, I will not” vote for Trump, said Regina Thomson, who ran the Cruz campaign in Colorado.
“If you love your country and you love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak, and vote your conscience”, Cruz declared, drawing boos from Trump supporters.
As the GOP primary came down to the two candidates this spring, Trump and his surrogates attacked Cruz’s family. On the other side, his refusal can be considered a mistake, as it did nothing but alienate the voters he needs to win in four years.
ME delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland said they were surprised and disappointed that Texas Sen. Marco Rubio, also addressed the convention’s third night, delivering lukewarm endorsements of Trump.
Cruz was hammered by Republicans for this speech to the RNC including former presidential candidate, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort, attempted to put a positive spin on the booing of Cruz, which he said increased party unity, “in a backhanded way”. While some chanted “Vote for Trump!” others just yelled “say it!”
Alternate delegate Sue Lynch, a Republican activist from La Crosse County, said Cruz embarrassed the party and should have honored the pledge he made as a candidate to endorse the ticket.
It was always unlikely that Cruz, who has built a political career off being the bomb-thrower of his party, would play nice on the convention stage, not after a bitter primary battle that devolved the point where Trump had begun to suggest Cruz’s father had something to do with the President Kennedy assassination.
Asked if this would impact the party’s ability to unite, Marino said, “No. I think this will affect negatively Ted Cruz’s right now not so good political career”.
In a statement issued by the campaign, McIver said Mrs. Trump had told her that she admired Mrs. Obama, and had read passages from Obama’s speech as an example of things she liked. “I will note, sir, that you might have a similar view if someone were attacking your wife”.
“Hillary Clinton is the person we should be focusing on and we should be working toward defeating her”, Whitmer said.
