Comic Con: ‘Star Trek Beyond’ cast remembers Anton Yelchin
While there have been myriad debates over the original intent of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry with regards to Sulu’s sexuality, namely from George Takei, who both originated Sulu and is a vocal LGBTQ advocate in his personal life, fans have seemed largely on board.

For a comparison, 2009’s “Star Trek” earned $75.2 million and 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” debuted to $70.2 million. Justin Lin, director of four of the “Fast and Furious” films, takes over admirably for J.
“As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you, and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight”, Abrams said.
Anton Yelchin’s Chekov in the “Star Trek” film franchise showed a “cherubic charm who inspired huge affection”.
While Kirk and Chekov (the late Anton Yelchin) hatch a plan, Scottie (Pegg) finds an ally in lithe alien rebel Jaylah (played by Algerian dancer Sofia Boutella) while a grumpy Bones (Karl Urban) finds himself saddled with an injured Spock (Zachary Quinto).
The cast of “Star Trek Beyond” has paid tribute to Anton Yelchin at the film’s Comic Con premiere.
Abrams has now spoken of the tragic loss the cast who grew close to him feel, and that continuing the movies with someone taking his place just wouldn’t be right.
My only real gripe with the film is with its villain, played by Idris Elba.
Fittingly, this film is dedicated to the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, who has appeared as Master Spock in the current series but died during pre-production last year, and 27-year-old Anton Yelchin, who mastered his reprisal as Pavel Chekov but was killed in a freak accident after filming.
4-STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT – Not the first time time travel was featured in a Trek film, but the way that Captain Picard and his Next Generatioin crew utilize it is perfectly done. “The decision to not shoot the script they had, that they were developing and had spent money on, came quite late and it was in January of 2015 that we began working on a blank page. The great thing about “Star Trek” is there are limitless possibilities and combinations of story, and I think that this movie proves that in a lot of ways, and I can’t wait to see where all of us go to from here”.

Three years into its five-year mission, the Enterprise is dealing with the drudgery of space exploration when Kirk (Chris Pine) and his crew dock at a massive space station. “It was important to Doug and I that the film had a fun side, too, in addition to being an exciting and thoughtful adventure”.
