Sen. Ernst to speak at Republican National Convention Monday night
Ernst also faulted Clinton for failing to put a stop the expansion of terrorism in Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, as well as “lying” about her private email server. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, told reporters here Monday she wants to impress upon people the need for American leadership in a world filled with grave threats.

Since anti-Trump delegates’ last-ditch attempt to deny Donald Trump failed last week, the Republican delegates are set to nominate the real-estate mogul and reality-TV star as their presidential nominee, along with his recently announced pick for vice president, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
A one-time rumored VP candidate for the Trump ticket, Ernst ended up snagging a prime-time speaking slot (details still TBD) at the 2016 convention.
Ernst set up her speech talking about her own background, from her Iowa farm girl childhood to how she became a soldier. She was briefly considered a potential running mate for Donald Trump this year, and is often included in lists of Republicans who may run for higher office in the future.
The entire Iowa delegation stayed for her speech even though most other convention attendees left the hall after Melania Trump spoke, and majority stood throughout Ernst’s speech. “I was glad to have the national stage, so we’ll continue pushing that message”. That’s why you’ll see the likes of Rick Perry and former navy seals, and Iowa’s senator and veteran Joni Ernst on the main stage here to talk about her experience serving in combat and how she knows first hand the importance keeping our country safe. She said she would look to engage with the administration on national security issues but has no desire to give up her day job.
She did offer her services as an “advocate” and said she would happily campaign on Trump’s behalf, Politico reported.
She said she thinks many Iowans were able to see the speech because one network affiliate, Iowa Public Television, carried the entire speech.

Rep. Steve King of Iowa said he thought Flynn got “caught up in the moment” and extended his remarks beyond his allotted time. The allegation was made earlier Monday evening by Ken Cuccinelli, the former attorney general of Virginia. And that is what Democrats did in response to Ernst’s speech Monday night.
