“Ghostbusters” was no match for Illumination and Universal’s “The Secret Life of Pets”, which dominated the box office for a second consecutive weekend, topping all challengers with $50.6 million. People even flooded its International Movie Database page with poor ratings.
Are you excited to hear about the possibility of more Ghostbusters?
The movie “The Secret Life of Pets” is on the top easily even this is the second weekend after the release of the film.
The all-female reboot of the classic 1984 movie made an underwhelming $46 million, in line with expectations, for second place behind the family friendly animation. So with that out of the way, maybe we can venture into more unknown territory and take on a story that we haven’t seen yet. Audiences gave it a solid B-plus CinemaScore. Whilst the math says it was a close call, in reality, The Secret Lives of Pets has been out for 2 weeks now… There have also been rumblings of additional Ghostbusters movies that could introduce other variations on the team.
“This can be considered a spiritual (pun intended) win for a film that has been the subject of much debate and heated discussion”, Dergarabedian added. Pictures garnered third place with an additional $11.1 million in its third weekend driving its local sum exceeded the $100 mark with $103.1 million.
“Finding Dory” by Disney Pixar took the fourth place with additional $11 million in North America on its fifth weekend, bringing the total to $445.5 million.
