Michelle Obama joins ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ jams out to Beyonce and Missy Elliott
“This is very much a treat”, Obama said, noting that she had rocked out in the passenger seat of a vehicle only a few times during her husband’s presidency.

James Corden’s White House tour takes an unthinkable turn when First Lady Michelle Obama joins him for a drive around the grounds singing Stevie Wonder and Beyonce.
Between belting out tunes from Stevie Wonder, Beyonce and Missy Elliott, the two joked about small things she’s looking forward to when she leaves the White House – making her own late night grilled cheese and rocking out in a auto.
“Get Ur Freak On” rapper Missy Elliott says she was a little freaked out shooting the viral-hit “Carpool Karaoke” video with Michelle Obama, but that the first lady put her at ease. In a video that had almost 2 million views on YouTube as of Thursday afternoon (July 21), Corden and Obama sing and auto dance to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed Delivered I’m Yours”, and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, complete with ring-twist hand gesture. “I know for a fact that it was all over my face like, ‘Wait, is she rapping this?’ But that goes to show you just how cool she is”. James admitted that he would have a standing late-night order, to which Michelle responded that she knew what 3am phone call he was prepared for, playing off the classic election ad that asked which candidate you would want picking up an emergency phone call in the wee hours of the morning.
Obama replied that freedom rediscovered will outweigh the loss of presidential luxury.
The First Lady and Missy Elliot also gave us a rendition of “This Is for My Girls” a song that was recorded to support the Let Girls Learn movement and the White House’s #62MillionGirls campaign.
Mrs. Obama also introduced “This is For My Girls”, a track written by Diane Warren – and performed by Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott, Janelle Monae, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michele and Zendaya – that promotes education for girls worldwide.

The Atlantic pointed out that the “Carpool Karaoke” segment was a reprieve from the over-the-top politicking we’ve seen during the last week, with the Republican National Convention underway in Cleveland, Ohio and the Democrats preparing for their convention next week.
