Voters largely rebuke lawmaker’s call for Clinton to be shot

The Secret Service is investigating comments made by a Donald Trump adviser for veteran’s issues for saying that Hillary Clinton should be executed for “treason”. Baldasaro did not directly threaten to kill or harm Clinton, but he did say that she was treasonous and should be shot.

Ayotte on Wednesday called Baldasaro’s comments “totally irresponsible” and have “no place in our society”. ‘Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason’.

Later in the interview Baldasaro, a retired U.S. Marine first sergeant, called Clinton ‘a piece of garbage’.

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that it would “conduct the appropriate investigation” of the matter, but Baldasaro said on Thursday that the agency had not yet contacted him.

And he told WMUR-TV, a New Hampshire ABC affiliate, that ‘as far as I’m concerned, it is treason and the penalty for treason is the firing squad ― or maybe it’s the electric chair now’.

During the news conference, which was broadcast nationally on cable news networks, Trump briefly stepped aside and let Baldasaro speak.

She declined to characterize Baldasaro’s role with the campaign or whether he would continue to travel with Trump on occasion.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement to several news outlets that the campaign is ‘incredibly grateful for his support, but we don’t agree with his comments’.

U.S. Secret Service investigators said they are looking into the incident. Now Donald Trump partisans are screaming that Hillary Clinton “should be shot”.

Baldasaro’s comments did not only cause controversy among public audience but also among veterans groups.
