Marlins ace Jose Fernandez is headed back to Miami to be examined by a doctor after feeling stiffness in his right shoulder following Friday night’s start against the Braves.

The Marlins are simply ready for this season to come to an end, as they don’t score runs and when they do score runs, their pitching gives up the lead constantly. It was Castro’s first career RBI.

He flipped the script a bit in his last home and road starts – Teheran allowed only two runs and eight hits in seven innings for a win against the surging Phillies at hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. Pitcher Mike Dunn cut off the throw from the outfield and fired to third, where Castro was called out. Most minor leaguers never make it to the show, and at 30-years-old, it is special as a fan of baseball to watch Garcia play at this level. Base hits by A.J. Tom Koehler gets the ball, and he’s 8-8 with a 3.71 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. Kendry Flores (0-1), who had been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans earlier in the day, took the loss.

It looks like the Braves have a slight leg up on the Marlins, as the Braves have won their last two games while the Marlins have lost their last five.

The game started to change in the bottom of the fourth inning as Atlanta recorded their first base runner off Fernandez with a one-out walk by Daniel Castro. He faced just one batter, Dee Gordon, who beat out an infield single that gave the Marlins a 3-2 lead. The right-hander has struck out 53 in 43 innings. Markakis has 19 hits and seven RBIs during a 13-game hitting streak, and in his past 16 games the veteran right fielder has hit. Pierzynski is batting. 442 during his 11-game hitting streak.

Center fielder Cameron Maybin singled to load the bases and Terdoslavich followed with an RBI single to center to give Atlanta a 2-0 lead.

Bourn, who hit. 275 in 208 games with Atlanta from 2011-12, and Swisher are expected to be activated in time for Saturday’s contest.

These are the sort of dog days of summer that Braves fans have rarely seen in the past quarter-century, when the weather is still blazing and more than 50 games remain on the schedule but, for all intents and purposes, only pride is left to play for. Bourn and Swisher will arrive for Saturday’s game.

Marlins manager Dan Jennings told reporters before tonight’s game that it’s unknown whether he’ll have to miss his next scheduled start, or how much time, if any, he might miss. He contended that SS Adeiny Hechavarria had checked his swing on a third strike….
