Trump’s moment: Speech to close GOP convention’s final day
Trump’s tapping of Pence, a Christian conservative, was seen as a way to mollify the party’s base. “Nobody from the Bush family is there; in addition, you don’t have anyone from the Romney group as well, so I think that’s what’s really remarkable”.

After not endorsing Donald Trump during his speech, Cruz received a whole lot of boos.
Overseas U.S. allies as well as voters at home will be closely watching his address, which comes the day after his suggestion that he might not defend America’s North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners as president.
Thursday night’s lineup includes: former football quarterback Fran Tarkenton, inspirational figure Brock Mealer, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., Dr. Lisa Shin, head of Korean Americans for Trump, and Ivanka Trump.
“I love the media”, Trump said with a smile as he tested the microphone.
Bondi, the only woman who holds statewide office in Florida, is expected to play a high-profile role in Trump’s Florida campaign.
Trump added on ABC News that McIver hated seeing the “conflict” her speech had caused and wanted to be clear about who should take responsibility.
The whole convention has been building up to Trump. Some watchers in the hall remarked that they wondered whether he should be president.
In a statement issued by the campaign, speechwriter McIver said Mrs. Trump had told her that she admired Mrs. Obama, and had read passages from Obama’s speech as an example of things she liked.
“Two world wars have shown that peace in Europe is also important for the security of the United States”, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said.
Trump joined Pence onstage at the end of his speech. It has gotten by largely on loans from Trump himself, and the Clinton campaign had outspent it on ads by more than $40 million as of earlier this month. Republicans used her decades in politics to draw a sharp contrast with Trump, a political novice promising to shake up Washington. “Next week they are going to trot out the same old Democrats with the same old message running the same old candidate”.
Trump had hoped the four-day Republican convention would bolster his support among GOP leaders and win over skeptics. But that goal seemed guaranteed to go unfulfilled following Cruz’s stubborn defiance on the convention stage. Ted Cruz, but their distaste for the Texas Republican was validated Wednesday night as Cruz refused to endorse Trump and told the delegates in Cleveland to vote their conscience in November. It was a surreal moment given how carefully scripted political conventions normally are, and served as a fresh reminder that Trump events rarely go by the rules.
Republican strategist Ed Rollins, who is advising a “super PAC” supporting Trump, said he can’t afford to any mistakes at this point, the New York Times reported.
Trump brushed aside the controversy, insisting Cruz was an outlier in an otherwise unified party.

But instead of taking his cue from the crowd in the room, Pence made a subtly damning case to TV viewers: “Over in the other party, if the idea was to present the exact opposite of a political outsider, the exact opposite of an uncalculating truth teller, then on that score you’ve got to hand it to the Democratic establishment, they outdid themselves this time. Great love in the arena!” “No big deal!” Trump wrote.
