Dodgers’ lineup dooms debuting Lopez, Nationals fall 8-4

Washington Nationals’ Trea Turner continues his follow through on his slide after he stole home during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Washington. He later walked and scored on Wilson Ramos’ RBI double that was just one part of Washington’s offensive explosion.

It was an eventful but not so exciting night for Norris (5-8), who gave up six runs on seven hits in five-plus innings before giving way to the bullpen.

Yasmani Grandal homered in the ninth for the Dodgers off Shawn Kelley to make it 8-4.

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez delivers a pitch during the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tuesday, July 19, 2016, in Washington. The former No. 1 overall pick started against Pittsburgh on Friday, when he allowed one run and three hits in eight innings to become the first National League starter since 1912 to start 13-0.

Howie Kendrick extended his hit-streak to 12 games with a two-out double in the eighth inning.

The Dodgers (53-42) have won all four games this year against the first-place Nationals (56-38), who have lost five of their last nine home games. Dusty Baker was asked this afternoon, before the second game of three with the Dodgers this week, what made them such a tough team to beat.

Turner, who hit a 3-2 cutter deep to left center in the first inning for his two-run shot and then a 3-0 fastball to center in the third for his three-run shot, said he has been healthy all season but is feeling comfortable again.

Harper entered the game hitting.115 in his previous seven games, with his last homer coming July 7 against the Mets in NY.

Anthony Rendon: 2-for-4 with a home run.

It was the 12th time this year the Nationals hit back-to-back homers.

NOTES: Dodgers LHP Alex Wood (posterior elbow impingement) underwent an arthroscopic debridement of his left elbow Wednesday in New York City. He will begin rehab in the next few days, and the estimated recovery time is about eight weeks. Though he was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday (retroactive July 8) with right knee inflammation, Baker said he hadn’t received his MRI results.

While scouts went to Yankee Stadium to get more information on Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances, the Yankees sent their own scouts to Washington D.C. where one of the Washington Nationals top prospects made his Major League debut.

In selecting Glover’s contract from Syracuse, the Nationals designated lefty Nick Lee for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. That pitcher starts the series finale, with Julio Urias getting the call for Thursday’s 9:05 a.m. PT start.
