When the Kasich adviser asked what Trump would then be in charge of, Trump Jr. simply replied: “Making America great again”.
Donald Jr. wanted to make him an offer nonetheless: Did he have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history? On July 4, Kasich’s chief strategist, John Weaver, called Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, to let him know Kasich had no plans to endorse Trump before the convention, according to one Kasich adviser. Supposedly, the latter said that as vice president Kasich would be in charge of both foreign and domestic policy.
“There are a lot of people wondering, ‘what am I doing?'” Kasich told the crowd at a meeting of the OH delegation today.
Now, the icing on the cake is his abject failure to make an appearance at the Republican National Convention in one of Ohio’s greatest cities, Cleveland.
“John Kasich was never asked by me to be V.P.”, Trump tweeted.
Kasich has not commented on the report.
Kasich said he didn’t find much support during the SB 5 campaign from those who pushed the law changes.
Patton said the OH delegation tried to avoid a strong showing of support for Trump until after the NY delegation put Trump over the top to clinch the nomination. “He’s a solid, solid person”.
The GOP presidential nominee told ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday that he appreciated Meredith McIver’s apology. “We’re exhausted of having politicians in both parties in Washington, DC, telling us we’ll get to those problems tomorrow”.
Kasich is still refusing to endorse Trump. Instead, he planned his own events with delegations in Cleveland, spreading his ideas and advocating for their GOP congressional candidates.
I have met John Kasich on several occasions and found him to be, while intense, a very kind and thoughtful man.
A Trump source denied to CNN that Kasich was offered such an opportunity but simultaneously confirmed he was vetted.
Kasich failed in his bid for the Republican nomination for president.
