“These are my days off; I’m losing money, I’m losing time”, said Miller, who works at the state comptroller’s office.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Southwest said the outages had caused 600 to 700 canceled and delayed flights. At the height of the problem late on July 20, airline employees were forced to check in passengers with paper records and could not take new reservations.

“We are still working to resolve the issues”, the company posted.

Cancellations stretched into Thursday as the airline worked to get crews and planes in position for flights. The “vast majority” of operating systems were running by early Thursday, Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly said.

According to Local 6, dozens of fliers took to Twitter to complain about the delays. A departure to Las Vegas was also canceled. However, the airline still canceled 220 flights, or about 5 percent of its schedule, on Thursday to prevent the problem from compounding. Due to this outage, company has to delay all their scheduled flights all over the world. Southwest blamed that breakdown on a faulty software application.

Southwest Airlines passengers scrambled to reschedule flights after several were canceled Wednesday because of technical glitches. A day later, passengers at Norfolk International Airport waited in long lines to rebook flights. Its reservations website, http://www.southwest.com, appeared to not allow booking or check-in and had a notice saying, “We’re working hard to get you where you want to be…”

“Thank you for hanging in there with us”, Rutherford said.

San Jose airport officials were able to make some accommodations for the travelers and things are getting back to normal Thursday morning, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.

According to the FAA, the Southwest ground stop was put in place at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday and lifted at 4:10 that same afternoon.

The glitch follows several high-profile computer problems faced by US airlines in recent months.
