Pence is also the point man for Trump to reach out to what Norpoth said is the need to win Midwestern battleground states. “We respect our voters”.

Trump will have stick to a speech on the teleprompter that includes details and a vision for the country with new ideas that isn’t just opposing the status quo of the Obama administration and Clinton’s proposals, the experts said.

Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, will attend and supports Trump, said spokesman Steve Tomaszewski.

“I’d love to listen to him”, she said. “It will be very hard for the convention to ignore the will of the voters”.

Unruh encountered overwhelming opposition from delegates arguing that it would be unthinkable for the party to abandon Trump after he overwhelmingly won GOP primaries and caucuses and garnered more than 13 million votes.

While many in the higher echelons of the party may not be thrilled to have the brash New Yorker as their standard-bearer, they’ve clearly made the calculus that the damage from a fractured, fractious convention would be greater than whatever might happen with Mr Trump leading the way for the next four months.
