As many as 150 youths from different Catholic dioceses of Uganda flew out of the country Tuesday destined for Poland to attend this year’s World Youth Day activities. You are a nation that throughout its history has experienced so many trials, some particularly hard, and has persevered through the power of faith, upheld by the maternal hands of the Virgin Mary.
“One of the things I hope from this”, says James, “is that it’s picked up in social media around the world and news organisations around the world that they see, hear this event with millions of young people who are sharing a really positive message…”
“I am certain that my pilgrimage to the shrine of Czestochowa will immerse me in this proven faith and do me so much good”, he said.
Fr Lombardi also said the Pope will celebrate a private rather than public Mass before having a personal “moment of silent pain, of compassion, of tears”.
Poland’s PAP news agency said a Vatican security official, Domenico Giani, visited Brzegi on Thursday and checked on the preparations.
Around 1.5 million people, majority Jews, are thought to have been murdered at the three camps in Auschwitz.
The pope will also meet with 10 Holocaust survivors and will visit St. Maximilian Kolbe’s cell.
Pope Francis’ visit on July 29th also marks the 75th anniversary of the condemnation of St Maximilian Kolbe to death at Auschwitz.
