Atrocities on Dalits following pattern during NDA rule: Congress

Attacking the BJP and RSS over the dalit thrashing incident, Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that “weaker sections are being terrorised and trampled upon in Gujarat”, a state that Prime Minister Narendra Modi projects as a “model”.
The Congress scion visited Gujarat after a group of “Gau-Rakshaks” assaulted some dalit boys in Una for transporting cow carcass.
Gujarat has been witnessing such protests following the incident at Una where seven Dalit youths were beaten up for allegedly killing a cow. However, this is not the first time that cameras have caught Rahul Gandhi sleeping during debate in Parliament.
Gandhi, vice president of the opposition Congress Party, was not present in court and was represented by his attorney Harin Raval.
The Aam Aadmi Party Chief claimed that it was not an “isolated” incident and “atrocities” on Dalits were being committed across Gujarat.
“It (the government) seems to have forgotten that parliamentary majority can never be a reason to abandon the principles and practice of Constitutionalism”, said Gandhi.
All normal activities of life have been paralysed by the ongoing cycle of violence that has claimed 44 lives, including 42 civilians and two policemen.
“We also sought financial help describing the poor conditions of our family for education of our children so that in future they can have a standing of their own”, he said.
She also accused government of “snatching away” rights of adivasis, Dalits and other traditional forest dwellers and “systematically weakening and subverting environmental laws”.
Lauding UPA’s role in handling issues related to Kashmir, she said, “Dr Manmohan Singh’s government had done a tremendous amount of good work, along with a serious effort to open and sustain a dialogue”.
Balu, the father of a Dalit youth who was beaten up, showed his wounds to Gandhi at the Mota Samadhiyala village.

The Home Minister said the state government is also trying to set up a special court for speedy trial of the case.
