The protest appears to be lead by the Los Angeles Revolution Club.

Police did not identify any of those arrested Wednesday. They suffered minor injuries, including bumps, scrapes and bruises.

He said most of the arrests were made in the aftermath and were not because of the flag-burning.

Bryan Hambley, an organizer for the Stand Against Trump group, credited police with transforming the anxiety-ridden preparations for the convention into a largely peaceful convening so far, involving demonstrators of all stripes.

“We’re not nervous”, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said at a Thursday evening briefing.

“We can’t predict what’s going to happen today and tomorrow, but so far, so good”, Williams said.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams has never been far from the action during the Republican convention, taking charge when a flag-burning turned into a melee, stepping in when demonstrators almost came to blows and joining bicycle officers on patrol.

Williams said an individual whose trousers were on fire got defensive when an officer tried to extinguish the blaze and assaulted the officer.

The four-day Republican convention has drawn to a close with a total of only two dozen protest-related arrests.

“The public is not antagonistic toward the police”, but instead have been welcoming and appreciative, said Gordon Friedman as he walked across public square Wednesday afternoon.

Protesters started yelling at the crowd, then several people went up to the group and shoving and fist-punching started.

Police say 23 people have been arrested this week, including 18 during a melee near the convention hall Wednesday that started when a protester tried to burn an American flag.

Below are images from the past week’s protests and crowds around the Quicken Loans Arena, where the convention was held.

The protest made it hard for some delegates to get inside the arena.

Some cops were obviously more comfortable interacting with the public than others, but when they did it was memorable. “I’m still a police officer”, Williams said Wednesday.

Also Tuesday, health officials said 11 members of the planning team for the California delegation to the Republican convention were recovering from a bout of norovirus, or what’s commonly known as stomach flu.

Police Chief Calvin Williams was among a dozen officers trying to restore order by pushing people back.

Media and police had a heavy presence around the fight, like they have for many protests this week.

Police blocked off the entire intersection and, later, began letting through only those credentialed to enter the convention.

A man set himself on fire while burning the American flag at a protest in Cleveland, Ohio.

Police moved in to disperse the crowd, bringing in police on bicycles, mounted patrols and state troopers.

Police used their horses to create a path to a van for people being detained.

However, reports of police using pepper spray were disputed by the city of Cleveland on Twitter.

Black Lives Matter and other protesters voicing opposition to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump staged a couple of marches and groups representing a variety of causes competed for attention in the city’s Public Square, which was the designated protest zone.
