Sean Copeland, 51, and his 11-year-old son, Brodie, were the two confirmed US casualties among them, as of Friday evening.

As previously reported, the attacker – who French media have identified as 31-year-old French-Tunisian Nice resident Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel – drove a truck through a crowd of people during a Bastille Day celebration on the Promenade des Anglais.
So far, we know of two Americans who died during the attack: Sean and Brodie Copeland from Austin, Texas.
Two of Sean Copeland’s brothers are set to fly to Nice with an official from the State Department to bring the family home, according to his brother Troy Copeland.
Fatima Charrihi’s son Hamza said she was with nieces and nephews when she was killed and that his brother had tried to revive her but she had died instantly.
“Nobody deserves this type of fate, especially not such a wonderful family”, the post read. He said when the surviving family members come back, they will be taken care of.
The Pastime Training Center in Frisco, Tex., posted a photo on Facebook of Brodie collecting a baseball trophy.
Other friends and family members have taken to Facebook to express their grief over the sudden and tragic loss of Sean and Brodie.
Our thoughts and prayers are with this family, and every other family, friend, and loved one that is today dealing with the aftermath of an unspeakable, senseless tragedy.
“Sean was not only a terrific leader in the company but a phenomenal person who will be dearly missed”, said Jerry Grasso, a spokesperson for Lexmark, in a statement to KXAN News.
A community candlelight prayer service is scheduled for Sunday in honor of the Copeland family. They were vacationing with the rest of their family when they were killed.
Sean, who Bishop describes as a “very hands-on father”, and Brodie were very close – and they specifically connected over baseball together, just as pictured (above).
Emmanuel Grout was a high-ranking officer – deputy commissioner of the local border police – but he was off-duty and enjoying the fireworks with his girlfriend and her daughter when he was killed.
Prayer service attendee Melissa Randle said her son was friends with Brodie.
“I really believe in this idea, and I think that if we can pull off this software”, he said, speaking into the camera, “there’s a very good chance that we’ll have great success”.
Holding up an identity card that belonged to his mother, he added: “She wore the veil, practising an Islam of the middle ground”.
