Stores, shoppers gear up for Missouri’s sales tax holiday
“It’s a lot more peaceful, especially when you’re shopping with children”, Nolan said. You don’t have to pay sales tax on the first $750 of a computer’s price tag, meaning you can save up to $45.

Generally speaking, the sales tax holiday applies to purchases of clothing and school supplies less than $100 in value per item and computers less than $1,500.
“This year we advocated for a longer extension and they agreed with it, and now it’s 10 days”, said James Miller with the Florida Retail Federation.
Additionally, Energy Star and WaterSense items also qualify for a tax break during the holiday.
Many local retailers plan to offer additional discounts to allow customers to take advantage of the savings available both in-store and online.
– The back-to-school sales tax holiday starts Friday as retailers look forward to the biggest retail event of the year besides Black Friday and the Christmas season.
Grandmother Gwendolyn Singleton was shopping for school supplies with her Grandaughter and says the list for back to school supplies is lengthy.
By combining a sales-tax holiday with coupons, taking advantage of sales, and other money-saving tactics, consumers can put a significant dent in back-to-school spending. The school supplies included in the holiday tax exemption include but are not limited to backpacks, binders, calculators, composition notebooks, crayons, erasers, folders, glue, index cards, lunch boxes, markers, paper, pencils, pens, rulers, and scissors.

The holiday has gotten consistently good reviews over its previous 14 years, according to Victoria Daniels, at the Iowa Department of Revenue. Erie County residents need to be aware that the 4.75 percent sales tax will still be charged on items exempt from the state sales tax.
