GOP CONVENTION | Trump’s closer is over, Clinton set to snag attention
Tim Kaine have emerged the two leading contenders.

She is expected to make several campaign stops in Florida on Friday.
Her announcement will be timed to snatch attention away from newly minted Republican nominee Donald Trump, hours after he closed his convention with a fiery speech.
Booker traveled to Cleveland to defend the Clinton campaign, which has come under continued attack at the Republican convention there this week.
Clinton’s campaign has been mum about the closing phase of the selection process and coy about when and where she will announce a decision. “Don’t get excited for me, ‘” Reardon says. He is well liked within the party – winning unanimous support for his current position under President Obama – and is considered a safe bet to successfully campaign in key swing states.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack tour the Tool and Die Lab at the Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. Cory Booker and Labor Secretary Tom Perez. Here are some facts to know about the US senator from Virginia.
About 60 percent of voters said trade with other countries caused job losses in the United States, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
As of May, Clinton had raised .2 million in campaign funds from Wall Street, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
The 58-year-old senator also has strong foreign policy experience – he now serves on the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees.
“He’d appeal to people in the Midwest because that’s his roots”, said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond. Though McAuliffe would appoint a temporary replacement to fill Kaine’s seat, the commonwealth would hold a special election in November 2017 for a full-term replacement; Clinton’s advisers fear Virginians could elect a Republican in an off-year race. And he is seen as helping Clinton win votes from independent male voters.
Clinton’s decision-making has been decidedly more private than Trump’s ahead of his selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as a running mate.
Of course, no running mate can please every demographic and constituency. Booker, an African-American, is a first-term senator and a former mayor of Newark, New Jersey. In a recent survey, he said, about 200 indicated they would be prepared to take part in a protest on the convention floor if Clinton chose a “corporate-oriented running mate deemed unacceptable”.
One person close to the Clintons say that reaching out to voters in rural America would likely be a personal mission for Vilsack.

One of the letters signed by Kaine is, as Dayen notes, largely a Republican-supported initiative that calls on regulators to loosen certain restrictions – an initiative “that a few Democrats agree with”. Consider: Neighboring Maryland’s unemployment rate also was better than the national rate (though worse than Virginia’s) while Kaine was governor.
