Star of ‘The Bachelor’ files to run for Colorado House

Bachelor” star Ben Higgins has decided he’s suited for a life of politics, and announced on July 20 that he will run for Colorado House in the November election – though Ben himself points out that he’s “not a politician”. In late May, Pinkston said he’d “step aside” for Higgins if the reality TV star officially made a decision to run for the Colorado House of Representatives.

Higgins, a 28-year-old Denver resident, declared his affiliation with the Republican party on January 4, the deadline to run for office.

News of his potential run for Denver’s District 4 comes after business consultant Willie B. Pinkston withdrew his candidacy in early July and said, in a statement to the Denver Post, that Higgins is “a great guy and likely the only other Republican who can win”.

‘People reach out to me about community development and planning and how to counsel places that need help, ‘ he told US Weekly. We’re still stuck on “I am definitely not a politician”. The representative recently pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in March and was sentenced to one year probation.

UPDATED, Friday 10:35 a.m.: Higgins has abandoned his plans to run for political office, citing “unforeseen circumstances”.

Higgins and fiancé Lauren Bushnell are also preparing to begin filming their reality show, “Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After“, which is set to premiere in October.

We can’t guarantee that Higgins will keep any promises he makes on the campaign trail, but he has thus far kept his vow to marry Lauren Bushnell.
