NC GOP leaders criticize Cruz for failing to endorse Trump
In an appeal to anxious voters, Donald Trump is pledging Thursday night that “safety will be restored” if he is elected president, using his Republican convention address to cast Democrat Hillary Clinton as part of a political class causing the nation’s troubles. Two days after speaking at the Republican National Convention, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had to come out and say that he disagreed with Trump about North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and reassure our allies that no, we wouldn’t abandon one of America’s longest-lasting alliances.

That means the most likely explanation for Cruz’s convention snub is that this is who he is. Trump himself entered the family box near the end, distracting much of the crowd and pulling attention way from the Texan on the podium. Referring to the tabloid magazine’s past coverage of the O.J. Simpson and John Edwards stories, he said, “This was a magazine that frankly in many respects should be very respected”.
Trump, a NY businessman who has never held elective office, needs a strong performance to improve his chances of getting a boost in opinion polls as Democrats prepare for their own, more scripted convention next week in Philadelphia. Many establishment Republicans do not support him and the convention has seen a key leader in the party’s conservative wing break ranks.
But Trump’s biggest problem may be among Republicans. In setting up a private e-mail server while she was Secretary of State, she had committed “terrible, bad crimes”, and, in seeking to deal with the country’s estimated eleven million undocumented workers, whom he says he would deport en masse, she was “proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness”. He would penalize companies that outsource jobs and then export their foreign-made products back into the United States.
Trump doubled down on defining his campaign by another slogan, “America First”, in an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday, despite concerns within the Jewish community over its historical connotations.
“Mr Trump’s speech will focus on his vision”, his campaign chairman Paul Manafort said Thursday, and “deal with current affairs such as the crisis facing cities and terrorism”. “Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it”. (He didn’t mention that the Republicans were in charge for eight of those years.) Then he exaggerated the trade deficit, falsely claimed that the budget deficit hadn’t improved since President Obama took office, and pointed to the rising national debt. He blamed her for the rise of Islamic State militants and blasted her willingness to accept thousands of Syrian refugees.
“He’s going to talk some about [Clinton], and that’s fine”, said Portman.
As Trump wrapped up his convention, Clinton was closing in on her selection of a running mate. Where Nixon pledged to heed the “voice of the great majority of Americans, the forgotten Americans-the non-shouters, the non-demonstrators”, Trump said that he would work to “deliver a better life for the people all across this nation that have been ignored, neglected, and abandoned”.
Trump brought up the Oswald story on the final day of the IN primary race IN May, when he and Cruz were still duking it out for the nomination.
Trump’s roller-coaster campaign defeated 16 rivals and steamrolled stubborn party opposition after being written off as a joke.
“That is why Hillary Clinton’s message is that things will never change. They are off message this week”.
Trump said he would speedily address the violence that has dominated headlines, such as the shooting deaths of five Dallas police officers earlier this month. “I met him once”, Trump said. “Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored”, Trump said. The victor of the November 8 election takes office on January 20. The tech billionaire declared to the Republican National Convention that he is “proud to be gay”, becoming the first speaker in the party’s history to do so from the stage of the Republican National Convention.
Trump is to be introduced by his eldest daughter, Ivanka, one of his most polished and effective advocates. I’m a capital D, Cuban American Democrat, a progressive pragmatist that is allergic to political piety or opportunism, which is why I’ve always resented the way the GOP thinks it speaks for all Cuban exiles.

“Unfortunately, I’ve seen these kinds of things over and over again in Washington”, Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) told TPM. “This woman I’ve been saying for some time is the greatest asset Donald Trump has”. McConnell said on Facebook that when it comes to Trump’s North Atlantic Treaty Organisation remarks, he was willing to “chalk it up to a rookie mistake”.
