Christian Garcia, a Miami native who works security at the 101 Cantina, helped stop the assault which was taking place near a dumpster.
According to Florida’s website, Garcia joined the team as a walk-on in 2015 and appeared in one game.
According to the linebacker, he was taking out the trash when he spotted the two by the dumpsters. He then approached the man, put his hands on Shaw and told him to stop. “The girl was basically unconscious, so I knew there was no way she could be giving consent”, he said.
Garcia added that the man’s friends were watching the rape occur, but were doing nothing.
There was a struggle and Shaw was able to get away from Garcia and the coworker.
Shaw was arrested later on Thursday on a charge of felony sexual assault and booked into the Alachua County Jail Thursday night, where he remains as of press time.
