Intel Basin Falls-X, Skylake-X, Kaby Lake-X to Debut 3Q2017

The announcement means that we won’t be seeing desktop-class Kaby Lake chips on shelves in retail boxes yet, but rather that Intel has started shipping the chips to its partners and system builders.

Many assumed Apple would simply include a Skylake processor in the next MacBook Pro and iterate with a Kaby Lake upgrade.

Yes, according to a leaked slide, Intel is bringing forth Coffee Lake (yet another “lake” – and a particularly tasty sounding one) in 2018, and this will be based on a 14nm process and offer six-core beasts as well as the usual dual and quad flavors.

The likely scenario of Kaby Lake’s deployment in the MacBook line is it will exclusively power the MBP models while Skylake will be used for the 12-inch MacBook, which in fact Apple has commenced doing with the latter’s 2016 edition. Kaby Lake will be the third and 14nm chip, then in 2017, Intel will make the jump to 10nm with Canonlake, we will then be on 10nm technology until 2020. The chip, like its predecessor, Skylake, is manufactured on the 14-nanometer transistor process and gives a “nice performance boost at a good cost structure”, Krzanich said. The product lineup will also be very similar to the Skylake lineup, so 95W TDP CPUs for the mainstream market and a K SKU for the enthusiasts.

It’s encouraging to see that the company has been successful in wrapping up Kaby Lake and getting the product into the hands of its customers.

Could it be that Apple will soon make happen the rumored MacBook Pro 2016 release date as reports emerged that Intel has shipped out in volumes the seventh-generation Kaby Lake processing chip?

During the investor’s conference call at the Intel Corporation Earnings Conference, the Chief Financial Officer of Intel, Stacy Smith observed that the revenue in the first quarter with their new processors was quite good.
