Munich shooting: Police operation underway, report says several killed at mall

In addition to the 8 confirmed dead, a male body was found, and officials are trying to determine if the man was a suspect in the shootings. Transit has been shut down in the city, and authorities asked people to avoid public areas. Munich hospital says at least 3 people were admitted after the shootings and are in serious condition, while several others sustained moderate injuries.

A shooting at a shopping mall in Munich has left at least six people dead and multiple people injured, the Munich police say. The police described the situation as “unclear”.

The attack reportedly began at a McDonald’s located near the Olympia shopping center. The U.S. Consulate has reinforced those warnings, telling any U.S. citizens in Munich not to travel to the consulate and to shelter in place instead. The White House has condemned the shooting as “an apparent terrorist attack”.

President Obama said Friday that “our hearts go out to those who may have been injured”.

Several highways north of Munich have also been sealed off by police.

Security forces have been on high alert after a refugee stabbed five people on a train in Bavaria on Monday.

This has been denied by the Munich fire department.
