With the convention over, Trump returns focus to Cruz’s dad

Donald Trump denied insulting Sen.

“This had nothing to do with me”, Trump said of the Oswald-Cruz story, “except I might have pointed it out, but it had nothing to do with me”.

All I did was point out the fact that on the cover of the National Enquirer, there’s a picture of him and insane Lee Harvey Oswald having breakfast. But they never denied-did anybody ever deny that it was the father?

In May, PolitiFact gave a trousers on Fire rating to the claim that Cruz’s father was with Oswald before Kennedy’s assassination. In one instance, Trump circulated an unflattering image of Heidi Cruz, the senator’s wife, along with the caption, “A picture is worth a thousand words”.

Cruz was booed off the Republican National Convention stage Wednesday night after he did not endorse Trump in his primetime address. The morning of the IN primary – a contest Trump won easily, ending the Republican nominating process – the GOP candidate called IN to Fox News to take a literally unbelievable shot at Ted Cruz.

He said that he had “nothing to do with it” and added that the National Enquirer is “in some ways well respected” and deserved a Pulitzer Prize for exposing former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards’ love affair.

Trump also revisited a controversy that emerged earlier this year when, pointing to an unsubstantiated National Enquirer story, he suggested that Cruz’s father may have been involved with the man that killed president John F. Kennedy. I’ve always said, “Why didn’t the National Enquirer get the Pulitzer Prize for Edwards, and OJ Simpson, and all of these things?”

The day after his controversial convention speech, Cruz said those comments by Trump played a role in his decision not to endorse Trump.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act and support gun rights during his speech to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 21, 2016. So this had nothing to do with me, except I might have pointed it out. “They’re not saying, ‘Oh, that wasn’t really my father.’ You know, that’s a little hard to do, because it looks like him”. “This is just kooky”, Cruz said.

“It’s ludicrous, it’s ludicrous”, Rafael Cruz told ABC News on May 3. Instead, Trump spoke for perhaps 40 minutes. Let’s be clear; this is nuts. Lieberman said the photos “seem to match”, and Goldstone commented, “There’s more similarity than dissimilarity”. “And I believe we’re going to make it even better”.

The Cruz campaign disavowed the ad at the time and denied any connection to it.

The sole evidence the Enquirer presents for the contention that Cruz Sr.is in the photo is the testimony of two self-styled experts: Carole Lieberman, a celebrity psychiatrist/expert witness who brags about her “star-studded practice in Beverly Hills,” and Mitch Goldstone, CEO of ScanMyPhotos, a digitizing photo service.
